My name is Andrea, but all my life I have been called Andie. I’m a doctoral student at Rice University, studying the optical properties of nanoscale materials. I do science all day long. Still, I have a distracting fascination with art- photography, industrial design, architecture and the Modernism movement of the past century. Modernism represented not only a change in aesthetic, but a change in thought and process. As a result, both science and art were completely transformed. This blog is my space to ask the question: can science exist without art, and art without science?
